Cuffs: hold the body upside down and crochet a sc in each FLO of Rnd 18 using red yarn.

Assembling the head
I used a white thread for creating the eye-rim. With a colored thread (yellow in my case) add the detail below the eye.
The eyelid was embroidered with black yarn, the eyelashes with black embroidery floss.
Between rnd 2 and 3, ı embroidered the nose with brown yarn with a with of 9 stitches. I also added some black details under the nose.
For the eyebrows, ı used brown yarn. They were embroidered in rnd 11 using 5 stitches, with 13 stitches between them.
You can always add cheeks below the eyes using pink yarn (width of 2 stitches).
Sew the ears to the left and right of the head between the first and second round of the mane.

Assembling the body
Sew the head onto the body.
Sew the arms to the left and right side of the body, directly below the head. Make sure to allign the stripes of the arms with the ones on the t-shirt (when making Yuma with a t-shirt).
Sew the tail in the middle of the body, in rnd 9.
Sew the legs to the left and right side of the body, in rnd 9, with a distance of 22 stitches.Attach the inside of the leg to rnd 7 to avoid sticking out.

CROCHET LION MANE ASSEMBLY
1. Sew Mouth on first and then Snout onto Head. When looking at the Head, you’ll notice the lines of the decreases separates the head into 6 different sections.  Use those points as reference when sewing on parts and see photos above for Placement.
2. Cut 2 circles from black felt for eyes. Cut a small triangle for the nose. Cut a tongue piece from pink felt.
Glue with Fabri-tac onto Head (or you can sew on). See photos for placement.
3. Sew ears to Head. Cut 2 triangles for the inner ears. Glue onto Ears.
4. Sew complete Mane Piece to Head.

Attaching with thread vs. yarn tail
For a cleaner look, I opted to cut a short tail, weave it in, and attach a few of the pieces with matching thread. I did this with the snout, mane and belly. However, it’s totally up to you and will look cute either way!

Optional: Skip arm & leg pads
Instead of attaching separate arm and leg pads, you can simply start with cream yarn for rounds 1 – 3 on the arms, and rounds 1 – 4 on the legs, then switch to yellow yarn for the remaining rounds. I prefer the look of the separate pads, but skipping them is definitely easier. 

How to indent the eyes

Note: The video above shows a unicorn, but the technique is the same for all of my patterns. My newer patterns indicate exactly where you should place your safety eyes, and instruct you to mark those stitches accordingly. This is one of my older patterns and it doesn’t indicate where to place the eyes. I plan to update my older patterns when I have a chance, but for now use your best judgement. 

Step 1 – Cut a strand of yarn approximately 18″ long. Tie a large, secure knot in one end and thread the other end through your yarn needle.Step 2 – Insert your needle through the back opening of the head and sew between the two spots where you’ll be placing your safety eyes.Step 3 – Pull your strand of yarn taut, which will create indents.Step 4 – Fasten off with a knot and hide your yarn tail inside the head.
