Materials:
– 2.5mm hook/C-2 (US)
– 4ply yarn/fingering > less than 50g
yarn in each colour: CHARCOAL,
WHITE and PINK
– BLACK 4ply yarn or embroidery thread
– Scissors
– Tapestry needle
– Polyester toy stuffing
– Stitch marker (optional)

Abbreviations:
– ch = chain
– MR = magic ring
– sc = single crochet
– inc = single crochet increase (2 sc in one stitch)
– dec = decrease (sc 2 together)
– BLO = back loops only
– sl st = slip stitch
– (..) = repeat the space in brackets the given number of times
– [..] = total number of stitches

Notes:
Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round and a yarn with no stretch is best, I prefer cotton or cotton blend.
– For a neat colour change, start the next round with the old colour and use the new colour to
yarn over and pull through (close) the first sc. See photo:
– I’ve used the following yarns:
o CHARCOAL = Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/4 in col. 010
o WHITE = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 01
o PINK = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 19
– Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
– Your tension, the yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of the finished item. My Zady the Zebra is approximately 10cm tall (4 inches).
– I have embroidered the eyes for this pattern but you may choose to use safety eyes. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.

Ears (CHARCOAL, make 2):
1) 5 sc in MR [5]
2) inc x 5 [10]
3) (sc, inc) x 5 [15]
4-9) sc x 15 [15]
Fasten off, fold the sides together and fold in half again. Sew across bottom (you will be sewing 4 edges) and leave a tail for sewing

Muzzle (CHARCOAL):
1) 6 sc in MR [6]
2) inc x 6 [12]
3) (sc, inc) x 6 [18]
4) sc x 3, inc x 3, sc x 6, inc x 3,
sc x 3 [24]
5-6) sc x 24 [24]
Fasten off and leave tail for sewing.

Materials –
Size 4 worsted weight yarn (25g of white; 25g of accent color)
3.5 mm crochet hook (These are the hooks I use and love!)
12mm safety eyes
Black crochet/embroidery thread for eyelashes/eyebrows (optional)
Scissors
Tapestry needle (Bent tips work wonders for amigurumi!)
Stuffing
Stitch markers
Sewing Pins (these are super helpful when it comes time for sewing)

Abbreviations – US terminology
MC- Magic circle
SC- Single crochet
SC INC- Single crochet increase
INV DEC- Invisible decrease
St(s)- Stitch(es)

How to Change Colors in Amigurumi – Invisible Color Change
When working on the last round before your next color change work up until the last stitch. Insert your hook into the last stitch, yarn over with your original color and pull through. You will have two loops on your hook. Drop your original color and pull up the new color you would like to change to, yarn over and pull through all loops on your hook. When working your next stitch complete a slip stitch instead of SC, this will make for a smooth transition into your new color.
Example above: Blue zebra was made with a regular color change while the pink zebra was made with the invisible color change.

NOTES –
– Slowly stuff as you go, you want it to be firm but not stretched. You will be working in the round; I like to use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round.
– The legs, body and head will be made as one piece.
– Feel free to carry your yarn through the color changes, this will avoid multiple tie offs.

Nose –
With accent color
Round 1: Create a magic circle with 6 SC
Round 2: SC INC in each st (12)
Round 3: SC in the first st, SC INC in the next, rep around (18)
Round 4: SC in the first 2 sts, SC INC in the next, rep around (24)
Round 5: SC in the first 7 sts, SC INC in the next, rep around (27)
Rounds 6-7: SC around (27)
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing onto the head. With a small piece of white yarn and tapestry needle, make a ‘v’ for each nostril on round 4 about 3-4 sts apart.

Legs – Make 2
Starting with accent color
Round 1: Create a magic circle with 6 SC
Round 2: SC INC in each st (12)
Round 3: SC in the first st, SC INC in the next, rep around (18)
Rounds 4-5: SC around (18)
Change to white
Rounds 6-7: SC around (18)
Change to accent color
Rounds 8-9: SC around (18)
Change to white
Rounds 10-11: SC around (18)
Change to accent color
Round 12: SC around (18)
Fasten off on the first leg only. When you complete the 2nd leg continue to round 13 to join the legs. (If you have been carrying your yarn when changing colors, I recommend cutting your white yarn on your 2nd leg. Once we complete our leg join the white yarn will need to be on the other leg where you can then continue to carry your yarn again for the body.)
Round 13: SC in the next 7 sts (this will align our color changes to be at the back when our join is complete). Chain 3 and attach to the first leg with a SC. SC in the remaining stitches around the leg. When you reach the chain make a SC across each of the 3 chains. SC in the remaining stitches of the next leg and SC across each of the 3 chains again. You will have crocheted on each side of the chain. (42 SC) This completes your join and is where your next round will start. Change to white

Place the safety eyes 7 stitches apart between rounds 41 and 42. Add eyebrows/eyelashes to your liking before securing the backs of your safety eyes.

Nose – Sew the nose centered between the eyes adding stuffing as you go.
Round 45: SC in the first 6 sts, INV DEC in the next, rep around (42)
Round 46: SC in the first 5 sts, INV DEC in the next, rep around (36)
Change to white
Round 47: SC in the first 4 sts, INV DEC in the next, rep around (30)
Round 48: SC in the first 3 sts, INV DEC in the next, rep around (24)
Change to accent color
*Continue to stuff the head and neck firmly to avoid a wobbly head*
Round 49: SC in the first 2 sts, INV DEC in the next, rep around (18)
Round 50: SC in the first st, INV DEC in the next, rep around (12)
Round 51: INV DEC around (6)
Fasten off and sew remaining hole closed, weave in your end.

Arms- Make 2 stuffing lightly at the bottom
With accent color
Round 1: Create a magic circle with 6 SC
Round 2: SC INC in each stitch around (12)
Round 3: SC in the first 3 sts, SC INC in the next, rep around (15)
Round 4: SC around (15)
Round 5: SC in the first stitch, INV DEC in the next, rep around (10)
Change to white
Rounds 6-7: SC around (10)
Change to accent color
Rounds 8-9: SC around (10)
Change to white
Rounds 10-11: SC around (10)
Change to accent color
Rounds 12-13: SC around (10)
Change to white
Round 14: SC around (10)
At the end of round 14 pinch the arm flat and make 5 SC across the top to close, fasten off and leave a long tail to sew onto the body.

Assembly –
– Sew the ears onto the head at round 46 on each side.
– Holding your white and accent color together we will make the mane starting between the ears and work our way down the back of the head.
– Create a slip knot and slip stitch into the stitch closest to the ear as pictured below.
– Chain 8 and slip stitch into the next stitch.
– Continue this process until you reach the other ear (completes one row of the mane).
– Slip stitch into the next stitch towards the back of the head to make one more row back across to the first ear. Make additional rows until you reach the bottom back of the head.
– Next, sew the arms onto the body centered with the head at round 27.
– Lastly, cut 2 strands of accent color and 1 strand of white approximately 6 inches long to make the tail. Using your crochet hook, pull the strands through a center stitch on the back of your zebra. Next, pull your ends through the loop and pull tight. Trim to your desired length.
Congratulations

Materials
About 50g each of Size 4 Worsted weight yarn in white and your chosen accent color. I used Yarn Bee’s Denim in Color in pink and black, and I love this Yarn in White.
12mm safety eyes (there is a reason I recommend these… they are high quality and I have NEVER had a problem.)
Stuffing
E hook (3.25)
H hook (5.0)
Needle for sewing
Stitch marker
embroidery thread

Abbreviations
SC- single crochet

SC INC- single crochet increase (2 SC in each stitch)

INV
DEC- Invisible decrease (put hook through the FRONT LOOP ONLY of two
consecutive stitches [two loops on hook] Yarn over pull through both
loops. [two loops on hook] Yarn over pull through two loops)

Magic Circle-
Make a loop, leaving a long tail to work with. Insert hook in center of
loop, yarn over and draw up a loop. Yarn over, pull through to make the
first chain (this does not count as a stitch!). Continue to crochet
over the loop and tail with the number of stitches called for. (If you
need 6 SC, then crochet 6 SC inside the ring.) Pull the tail to close
the circle.

Always move your stitch marker to the last stitch in the round. This pattern is worked in continuous rounds.
Everything but the mane will use the 3.25 hook.

Head
Using the accent color worsted weight yarn:
Round 1: In a magic circle, 6 SC.
Round 2: SC INC in each around. (30)
Round 6: SC in first 4, SC INC in next. Repeat around. (36)
Rounds 7-9: SC in each around. (36)
Change color. From here on out, change your color every 2 rows.
Rounds 10-12: SC in each around. (36)
Round 13: SC in first 5, SC INC in next. Repeat around. (42)
Round 14: SC in first 6, SC INC in next. Repeat around. (48)
Round 15-18: SC in each around. (48)
Attach
the eyes between rows 12 and 13, 7 stitches apart. Begin to stuff here.
Sew on any eyebrows or eyelashes with embroidery thread.
Round 19: SC in the first 6, INV DEC in the next. Repeat around. (42)
Round 20: SC in the first 5, INV DEC in the next. Repeat around. (36)
Round 21: SC in the first 4, INV DEC in the next. Repeat around. (18)
Round 24: SC in the first, INV DEC in the next. Repeat around. (12)
Round 25: INV DEC around. (6)
Fasten off and carefully sew the remaining hole closed.

Body
You
will change the color of your yarn every two rows. On round 3 you will
change to black, on round 5 you will change to white, etc.
Round 1: In a magic circle, 6 SC.
Round 2: SC INC in each around. (12)
Round 3: SC in first, SC INC in next. Repeat around. (18)
Round 4: SC in first 2, SC INC in next. Repeat around. (24)
Round 5: SC in first 3, SC INC in next. Repeat around. (42)
Begin to stuff here.
Round 21: SC in the first 5, INV DEC in the next. Repeat around. (36)
Round 22: SC in each around. (36)
Round 23: SC in the first 4, INV DEC in the next. Repeat around. (30)
Round 24: SC in each around. (30)
Round 25: SC in the first 3, INV DEC in the next. Repeat around. (24)
Round 26: SC in the first 2, INV DEC in the next. Repeat around. (18)
Rounds 27-29: SC in each around (18)
Fasten
off, leaving a long tail. This is what you will use to sew on the head.
Attach the head by pinning it in place. The nose will hang off toward
the front, while the back will be mostly attached. Sew around multiple
times. Make sure the neck is firmly stuffed before you attach.

Legs (make 2)
*I only stuff the very bottom and very lightly. Then not at all through the top half.*
Using accent color:
Round 1: In a magic circle, 6 SC.
Round 2: SC INC in each around. (12)
Round 3: SC in first, SC INC in next. Repeat around. (18)
Round 4: SC in first 2, SC INC in next. Repeat around. (24)
Rounds 5-7: SC in each around. (24)
Round 8: SC in the first 2, INV DEC in the next. Repeat around. (18)
Round 9: SC in the first, INV DEC in the next. Repeat around. (12)
Change to white. Change colors every two rows for the rest of the leg.
Rounds 10-25: SC in each around (12)
Fasten off and leave a long tail to sew onto the body. Attach them in the middle, about 5 rows from the very center.

Arms
*I only stuff the very bottom and very lightly. Then not at all through the top half.*
Using accent color:
Round 1: SC 6 in a magic ring.
Round 2: SC INC in each around. (12)
Round 3: SC in first, SC INC in the next. Repeat around. (18)
Rounds 4-6: SC in each around. (18)
Round 7: SC in first, INV DEC in the next. Repeat around. (12)
Change color. Alternate colors every two rows.
Rounds 8-23: SC in each around.(12)
Fasten off and leave a long tail to sew on the body. I sew them on rows 22- 26 angled slightly so that the arms are angled down toward the feet.

Ears (make two)
Using Accent Color:
Round 1: In a magic circle, 6 SC.
Round 2: SC in each around. (6)
Round 3: SC INC in each around. (12)
Round 4: SC in first, SC INC in next. Repeat around. (18)
Round 5: SC in the first 2, SC INC in next. Repeat around. (24)
Rounds 6-7: SC in each around. (24)
Round 8: SC in first 2, INV DEC in next. Repeat around. (18)
Round 9: SC in first, INV DEC in next. Repeat around. (12)
Round 10: SC in each around.
Fasten off, leaving a tail to sew on the head. Pinch the bottom of the ear to make a little crease and sew a few stitches to hold the shape. I sewed them about 6 rows from the last row of the head. I attached them so that they stand mostly straight, lined up with the eyes.

Tail
Chain to 15. HDC in the second chain from hook and in each chain across. Fasten off leaving a tail to sew on. Attach 6 strands of yarn and trim to desired size. Sew on the bottom.

Mane
Using the 5.0 hook:
With white, chain 20. In the third chain from the hook, DC INC. Change yarn color to black in your second DC. Then DC INC in the next chain using the black. Take care to lay the white tail over the chain so that you crochet over it. Continue this pattern to the end. Fasten off leaving a long tail.

For the larger, more wavy mane on the pink zebra, I used a TRC instead of a DC and TRC 3 times, instead of twice in each chain.
Weave in the extra ends, but keep the long tail to sew on. I pin the front piece centered between the eyes a couple of rows up. Pin the chained part to the head and sew on.
